Mise-en-abyme, 2021
Acid-treated mirror & steel

‘Mise en abyme’ is translated as ‘placed into abyss’, known as creating infinite recurring sequence of an image within itself.

The steel structure is in fact half-constructed with steel curves. However, depending on the viewing spot, the mirror could create an illusion of a steel trap, fully encaging the translucent text ‘MISE EN ABYME’. The letters were created by destroying the mirror surface, making them translucent and see-through. Interacting with the viewers’ reflection, it poses the contradiction between visual constraint and textual expansion.
